Michael Laser grew up in New York City neighborhood much like the one in which 6-321 takes place and many of the incidents are based on events from his childhood.  He has published many short stories as well as a children's picture book and a novel for adults.  He lives in Montclair, New Jersey with his wife and children.

But when his class, 6-321, becomes involved in a senseless feud with another class, he is forced to question this strategy. Suddenly everything he took for granted seems to be changing before his eyes: the quiet girl he has a crush on turns out to be a rebel in disguise, and the class rebel turns into a respected leader.
