BEATING THE CARO-KANN Why is playing Black against Vassilios Kotronias every Caro-Kann player's worst nightmare? Find out in this book in which Kotronias, the first Greek Grandmaster ever, explains the workings of his preferred system against the Caro-Kann. He recommends the Advance Variation. This line has been a favorite of such aggressive players as Tal, Nunn, Timman, Anand, and Short, but it is perhaps in Kotronias' hands that it has been shaped into the most formidable weapon. White intends quick piece development linked with a kingsize pawn storm ? a blitzkrieg that has often swept Black away inside twenty moves. Correct defence, as also described in this book, should enable Black to avoid such a grisly fate, but this will be at the cost of some positional concessions. ? Thoroughly up-to-date survey of the critical lines by their leading exponent ? Packed with new ideas ? Complete baffle manual, describing both sides' typical plans and maneuvers Vassilios Kotronias has led the new wave of top-class players from Greece. Awarded the Grandmaster title in 1990, he has become established on the international tournament scene as a thoroughly professional and erudite competitor with an enterprising, aggressive style of play.
