Stories set mostly on Chicago's South Side, depicting ordinary people whose lives are transfigured by some small chance or choice. Preface by Vance Bourjaily, which comments on the fact that Colter did not attend the Iowa School, so it was a surprise when he won the award. 225 pp. Very good in illustrated wrappers (some sunning to the spine, but a clean and straight copy, no creasing).
