Creating Ethnicity raises the important question of `what is ethnic?' Using case studies from Canada, Zaire, Belgium and Bolivia, Roosens shows that ethnicity does not always stem from ancient tradition, but can be shaped, modified, recreated or even manufactured in modern society.
