She has a master's degree and had taught in Virginia and internationally. Included are the peninsulas on both sides of the Rappahannock, the Northern Neck and the Middle Neck. This area became a river civilization. Every plantation had its dock to which British ships came to take on cargoes of tobacco, hemp, wheat and lumber, bringing sugar and coffee from the West Indies, tea and spices from Asia, furniture, clothing, dishes and silverware, paint, nails and glass, books and news of the world.
