Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

Charles Williams was an American crime novelist and one of the distinctive voices of mid-twentieth-century paperback noir. A former merchant seaman and radio operator, Williams brought to his fiction a sharp sense of drift, danger, money pressure, and compromised survival. His novels are known for their speed, sexual tension, criminal ingenuity, and unsentimental portraits of men and women caught in schemes that often turn against them. He wrote with the clean force of the original paperback era, producing crime fiction that is direct, atmospheric, and psychologically acute.Williams's best-known books include Dead Calm, The Hot Spot, Aground, River Girl, Hell Hath No Fury, and Nothing in Her Way. Several of his novels were adapted for film, and his work has remained of interest to readers of noir fiction, vintage crime novels, suspense fiction, and postwar American paperback originals. Though sometimes less widely remembered than figures such as Jim Thompson or David Goodis, Williams belongs firmly in that same tradition of hard, economical crime writing, where desire, greed, fear, and betrayal drive ordinary people toward disaster.
