STEPHEN COOK is a graduate of the California College of the Arts and is an award-winning art director. This is his first book. Currently he lives in Los Angeles with his wonderful wife, three children, and pet snail. If his wife asks, nothing like this story ever happened while he was watching the kids.

PreSchool-Grade 1 An entertaining story told in simple declarative statements. A little boy tells of waking up early, making breakfast, going to the zoo and to a ballgame, coming home to daddy's special meal of a pizza delivery, and, finally, staying up late. The humorous illustrations offer an entirely different point of view, showing the narrator startling his father awake and the man chasing after his underwear-clad son. The child says, I got dressed to go out. The cartoon paintings and tongue-in-cheek text are reminiscent of David Shannon's No, David! (Scholastic, 1998). The characters have dots for eyes, and the full-bleed spreads are saturated with bright colors. The use of acrylic on canvas board produces a textured look that resembles pastels, adding to the childlike feel. The endpapers, filled with drawings that are ostensibly the work of the little boy, depict him and his daddy and serve as a nice lead-in.
