Inhaltsangabe

The reigning assumptions in late twentieth-century scholarship on 1 and 2 Kings, and indeed on all of the so-called Deuteronomistic History, have come under serious question. When and at whose hands did these books take shape? What sources were available to the authors? How well do these books fit into the larger history of which they are a part, and what is "Deuteronomistic" about it?

In Soundings in Kings, the first volume in Fortress Press's Soundings series, international scholars representing diverse approaches pursue these and related questions, identifying new methods and models for the social location of the authors (or redactors) of Kings and their intended readers. They capture contemporary thinking and point the way to future explorations of these important books-a crossroads between prophecy, poetry, and wisdom, popular tradition and national narrative.
