In Book 2 the student learns the names of all the notes in the grand staff and plays them in short compositions. In addition to note learning, the importance of good hand position is stressed. Moreover, students are quickly given the responsibility of analyzing new pieces and preparing themselves mentally before playing. By the end of Book 2 the student is familiar with all the notes of the staff, and note and rest values from whole notes through to eighth-notes.
