No Matter What Your Handicap Smart Golf Can Help You Take Strokes Off Your Score

Aus dem Klappentext

"Golf is a game played on a six-inch course: The space between your ears." Sam SneadIt is no secret that professional golfers have come to rely on sport psychologists to help lower their scores. But short of a session with a professional, is it possible to learn the lessons of sport psychology and apply them to your game. Professional golf teacher Dr. DeDe Owens and sport psychologist Dr. Dan Kirschenbaum have translated the mental side of golf into a set of easily applied techniques that can take strokes off your score--no matter what your skill level or how long you've been playing the game. The authors apply scientifically researched and field-tested principles of sport psychology and present them in clear, no-nonsense language. The easy-to-remember acronym PAR summarizes the authors' key points and explains how to do the following:

  • Plan effectively using four principles: personal par, conservation, wide first, and safety first.
  • Aim at a very specific target by using visual or kinesthetic images and a consistent preshot routine.
  • React constructively, not destructively, after each shot and each hole.
Use the 4-F technique--fudge, fix, forget, focus--to keep your reactions effective. Smart Golf teaches you how to evaluate your mental game right on your scorecard. This simple scoring system offers you an effective method to review each round. And if your style is more casual, the book also outlines a less detail-oriented approach to assessing your mental game. From cover to cover, Smart Golf is filled with the most effective sport psychology techniques positive focusing, zones of optimal functioning, and stress management that can help lower the handicap of anyone who is serious about improving his or her game.
