Gérard Tougas, Professor of French Language andLiterature at the University of British Columbia, specializes in thestudy of francophone literatures. The first edition of A Checklistof Printed Materials relating to French-Canadian Literature datesfrom 1958. In 1960 his Histoire de la littératurecanadienne-française contemporaine appeared, and the fifth editionwill be published at the end of 1973. His other works include:Littérature romande et culture français which analyzes thenovelists and poets of French Switzerland; La Francophonie enperil, a comparative study of French and English-speaking Africanauthors, and Littérature canadienne-française contemporaine.In his latest work, Les écrivans d'expression française devantla France, Professor Tougas has made a study of the francophoneauthors of Africa, the Middle East, Madagascar, Mauritius and Réunion,Indochina, the Antilles, and Canada which underlines the dynamism ofcontemporary French literatures.
