Cuthbert Bede, or the Reverend Edward Bradley, was a mid-19th century rural cleric in England and author of The Adventures of Mr. Verdant Green (1853-57) and Photographic Pleasures (1855), the first book devoted to photographic humor. Henisch (former lecturer in medieval English, U. of Reading, UK) provide a lively biography of Bede, as well as an insightful portrait of the cultural atmosphere in which he lived and worked.
