Contributors represent a wide range of disciplines including psychology, interpersonal communication, human resource management, international management, anthropology, social work, and education. Twenty-four chapters, all new to this edition, cover an array of topics including training for specific contexts, instrumentation and methods, and training design.

Dr. Dan Landis (co-editor) is an affiliate professor of psychology at the University of Hawaii at Hilo. He holds a similar appointment at the Manoa campus of the same university. Previously he was professor of Psychology, director of the Center for Applied Research and Evaluation and a former dean of the Liberal Arts College at the University of Mississippi. He is the co-editor of the two previous editions of this Handbook, author and co-author of over 120 books, chapters, and articles in referred publications. He is also the founding and continuing editor of the International Journal of Intercultural Relations and the founding president of the International Academy for Intercultural Research.
Dr. Janet Bennett (co-editor) is executive director of the Intercultural Communication Institute and chair of the ICI/University of the Pacific Master of Arts in Intercultural Relations program. Her Ph.D. is from the University of Minnesota, where she specialized in intercultural communication and anthropology. For twelve years, Janet was the chair of the liberal arts division at Marylhurst College, where she developed innovative academic programs for adult degree students. As a trainer and consultant, Janet designs and conducts intercultural and diversity training for colleges and universities, corporations, and social service agencies. She teaches courses in the training and development program at Portland State University and has published several articles and chapters on the subjects of developmental "layered" intercultural training and adjustment processes.
Dr. Milton Bennett (co-editor) is co-founder of the Intercultural Communication Institute and director of the Intercultural Development Research Institute. His Ph.D. is from the University of Minnesota in intercultural communication and sociology, and his current research interests are in empathy and consciousness. For fifteen years Milton was on the faculty of the department of speech communication at Portland State University, where he taught courses in intercultural communication and consciousness studies. Now he develops and conducts intercultural training for corporations and universities in both domestic and global diversity, and he serves as the director of graduate study for the ICI/University of the Pacific Master of Arts in Intercultural Relations program. Milton created the Developmental Model of Intercultural Sensitivity, is the co-author (with Ed Stewart) of the revised edition of American Cultural Patterns, and is editor of Basic Concepts of Intercultural Communication.
