In 1963, with a revitalization of traditional cultural, political, and religious values, bolstered by security threats, Greek Cypriots sought to marginalize and terrorize Turkish Cypriots. The result was a breakdown of the inter-communal dialogue necessary for the creation of a State. The concept of a unified Cypriot identity eroded as each community articulated the ethnic and national priorities of their separate motherlands, Greece and Turkey. This book investigates the current political challenges confronting the Greek and Turkish communities on Cyprus in the resolution of ongoing tensions that separate the island.
