book as a road map for your career -- It may be too late for Jenson Button to turn around his poor fortune to become a world beater. That s the view of former Formula 1 driver Derek Daly, who fears the youthful burning hunger to succeed may have passed 28-year-old Button by during his last two tortured years with Honda. Daly, now a respected TV pundit and driver coach, has written a book advocating his pyramid theory for ultimate success. He believes the building bricks of talent plus technical, communication, mental and physical skills are topped off in champions by desire and commitment. And without all the bricks in place, the pyramid will crumble. Former Tyrrell and Williams ace Daly reckons that in Button s early days with BAR the team that morphed into Honda he looked like a potential world champ. He says: 'Jenson appeared to have the momentum to propel him to greatness. 'The team then faltered. Jenson will have lost the Hamilton/Kubica type of hunger/drive and sometimes it s hard to get that back.' Irishman Daly added that Honda F1 chief Ross Brawn must not only oversee the creation of a swifter car next season, but will also have to 'rebuild the fast old(er) driver'. Daly, whose book is called Race To Win, admits he did not have all the 'pyramid' components in place when he was in F1. Here are his views on some of the other current aces . . . Lewis Hamilton (McLaren): 'Has all the attributes of the champion s pyramid but his technical abilities won t be fully developed. Has proven he has the mental skills to block out worldly distractions.' Felipe Massa (Ferrari): 'His pyramid is soft in the mental skills area. He would have benefited greatly if his manager had addressed his emotional needs and mental make-up before he made it to F1. Just doing the job uses enormous amounts of mental capacity. When he runs out of capacity he flies off the road.' Heikki Kovalainen (McLaren): 'He might want to be world champion this year and therefore tries too hard, whereas if his expectations were lowered he could develop his pyramid to be superb in two years.' The Sun; This book, by former Grand Prix racing driver Derek Daley, is a step-by-step guide manual for drivers, mechanics, team managers and parents to follow if they want to be successful in motorsport. He also describes his 'Chamions Pyramid' - six qualities that a driver needs to master and balance to succeed in racing and in life.
