Measuring Immigrant Integration: Diversity in a European City (Research in Migration and Ethnic Relations) - Hardcover

Inhaltsangabe

Reinsch (European Research Centre on Migration and Ethnic Relations, Utrecht U., the Netherlands) explores the possibilities provided by survey methods to measure individual immigrants' integration within the Dutch city of Haarlem. After conducting structured interviews among immigrants and indigenous residents of the city, he constructs a formal model that measures individuals' social positions, the cultural orientations shaped by those positions, and the social behavior that follows. He argues that the success or failure of social policy designed to facilitate integration can be successfully measured by examining individual integration processes through the use of his survey methods. Finally he discusses some of the limitations of the structured survey method. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
