Inhaltsangabe

This bright and colorful picture word book is a perfect introduction for toddlers to the exciting world of words, and an appealing vocabulary-builder for young children. Easy-to-recognize illustrations of familiar objects are accompanied by carefully selected words printed in a bold and friendly type. The thematic arrangement explores familiar settings - Things we see in the kitchen, Having fun at the beach, What is the weather today? - placing each word in a context a child will readily understand. Toddlers and their parents will find it the ideal 'look and say' book, while slightly older children will find essential vocabulary they will need in their reading. In each two-page spread, a simple sentence shows how key words are used and invites novice readers to practice newly acquired skills. Parents will appreciate the helpful tips in the introduction and the indexed word list in the back of the book. Includes a colorful, pull-out first words poster.

Rezensionen

PreSchool-This is the same type of early vocabulary-building title as Angela Wilkes's My First Word Book (DK, 1991), but illustrated with simple drawings outlined in thick black line on contrasting colored backgrounds. Words are arranged by topic sentences, e.g., "There is a lot to do at school." Featured words for this spread include "teacher," "chair," "backpack," and "blocks." This is a colorful book with iconographic representations of familiar figures and objects labeled with bold-typed words. An alphabetized word list with page numbers appears at the end. Adequate, but not a priority purchase.
