Illustrated with over 200 photographs and postcards, this fascinating collection captures the twentieth-century history of the parishes - from the shops and businesses that evolved from the market village of Chalfont St Peter, to the rapid growth and development of Gerrads Cross into a thriving commuter village, which came with the opening of the railway in 1906. As well as timeless views of the Misbourne valley, there are snapshots of urban streets and buildings which have long since been replaced by shopping precincts and new residential development. In more recent times this urbanization has served to virtually unite these two once distinct and rural villages.
