Stephen Friar is a writer and researcher specialising in history, heraldry and genealogy. His previous books include Heraldry, Companion to the English Parish Church (both published in Sutton History Handbooks), Basic Heraldry (with John Ferguson, A & C Black) and The Local History Companion (Sutton 2001)
