Part I, on general principles, adds an introductory chapter that emphasizes the importance of stroke, and places the present knowledge and approach into historical perspective. Part II, which covers the various stroke mechanisms, syndromes, and problems, adds new chapters on stroke in children and young adults, spinal-cord strokes, and strokes and cerebrovascular disease in patients who have had surgery or in whom surgery is contemplated or already planned.
