1939: Carolyn Maddison decides as soon as she is eighteen she will join the Women's Auxiliary Air Force. Reporting to the Air Ministry she meets good-looking, charismatic pilot, Charlie Wade. He believes Carolyn should work as an Intelligence officer, and suggests she should serve on an active bombing station. Carolyn obtains a prestigious posting in 5 Group Bomber Command, briefing and debriefing aircrew. Carolyn resists her feelings for her dashing pilot, deciding it's not worth the risk of loving a man in wartime...only to wonder if she has done the right thing when a new WAAF on the station sets her cap at him.
