James Dean (“JD”) Brown is Professor of Second Language Studies at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa. He has presented speeches, workshops, and courses in many countries ranging from Brazil to Yugoslavia, and served on many editorial boards, the TOEFL Research Committee, and the Executive Board of TESOL. He has also published numerous journal articles, chapters, and books on language testing, curriculum design, research methods, program evaluation, and connected speech.
How do you plan a TESOL research project? How do you analyse research data qualitatively and quantitatively? Each chapter recommends applications in ESL and EFL classes and programs and offers guided tasks, presenting extracts and summaries of MMR studies from the TESOL literature, and suggests further readings to inform individual practice.Examples from international settings are used to explain eight different research traditions and how mixed methods research has been applied to them.
