This is a remarkable account of early Polar exploration written by one of the foremost polar explorers of the Heroic Age. William Speirs Bruce (1867-1921) led the 1902-4 Scotia expedition and this is his log of that exploration.
The log was to have been the first of a series of volumes but, although the scientific reports connected to the expedition were published, Bruce's fascinating narrative account never reached publication. The modern reader can here find Bruce's log, his photographs and his plans presented exactly as originally intended. Peter Speak has written an informative and sensitive introduction as well as providing fully explanatory notes and a glossary of scientific terms.
