Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Near Fine. First Edition. A beautiful example of a twenty-eighth impression of the true first edition, with number-string sequence 28 29 30 at the bottom of the printer's page. Also stated 'Harry Potter, names, characters and related inidcia are copyright and trademark Warner Bros., 2000 TM' - indicating a publication date of 2000. However, only "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" is listed as 'also available', even though "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" was published in 1999. ***This was the last printing in this form, as the 29th impression has three further titles including "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" listed as 'also available' - "The Goblet of Fire" was published in 2000. ***A virtually fine copy in pictorial colour illustrated boards. The boards are perfectly clean and unmarked. Head and tail of spine just very slightly creased. Corners sharp. No reading lean to the binding. Spine tight. Page block edges perfectly clean. Internally also near fine with no inscriptions, marks or annotations. Pages absolutely clean and bright. The thin paper stock is slightly wrinkled at the gutter in places, but only very slightly tanned - much less than is usually found. No creases or tears. No straining to the internal binding. The colours of the book are extremely bright and unfaded (please see scans). ***In a near fine colour illustrated dustwrapper, which has not been price-clipped, retaining the original publisher's printed price of £10.99 on the front flap. Unusually, the dustwrapper has virtually no noticeable faults. No creases, chips or tears. However, the colours on the spine of the dustwrapper are gently faded (please see scans). ***223 pages. 206mm x 136mm. ***An early twenty-eighth impression of the true first edition of "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone", in its original dustwrapper, in beautiful collectable condition. Being such a popular children's book, copies in such near fine condition are very hard to find now. A beautiful copy of the book, almost without fault bar the fading on the spine of the dustwrapper, and uncommon thus. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. Grandpré, Mary (illustrator).…

Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. First Edition. An eighteenth impression of the true first edition, with the number-string sequence 20 19 18 at the bottom of the printer's page. Only "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" is listed as 'also available', indicating a 1998 printing date, and with 'Winner of the 1997 Smarties Gold award at the bottom of the front board. ***The eighteenth impression of the hardcover issue is significant as it was the first to feature the revised old wizard illustration on the back cover. Illustrator Thomas Taylor has explained that he had been given little information when designing the original cover for "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone". When instructed to create an image of a wizard for the back cover, he used his father as a reference. He was not informed that the illustration was meant to represent Hogwarts' headmaster, Albus Dumbledore. This resulted in an image that did not accurately depict the character. The new illustration by Thomas Taylor with Dumbledore on the back cover was used starting from the 18th hardcover and 40th paperback printing. The eighteenth impression was also the last to have the strapline "Winner of the 1997 Smarties Gold Award" on the front board. This was replaced with "Triple Smarties Gold Award Winner" on all further impressions. ***Near fine in pictorial colour illustrated boards. The boards are clean and unmarked without any fading at all, even to the spine. Head and tail of spine slightly creased. Corners sharp. Very slight reading lean. Spine tight. The colours of the book are extremely bright and unfaded. Internally also near fine with no inscriptions, marks or annotations. Pages clean and bright - just lightly tanned as usual. There is a small nick at the top edge of p.87/8 (please see scans). No significant creases or tears. Unfortunately, this copy did not retain the original dustwrapper, but a dustwrapper from a later impression (with "Triple Smarties Winner" has been included with the book - a very good colour illustrated dustwrapper, which retains the original publisher's printed price of £10.99 on the front flap. Head and tail of spine of dustwrapper just very slightly creased. The dustwrapper would be described as near fine, but for some fading to the colours on the spine which is quite common with this title. ***223 pages. 206mm x 136mm. ***An early eighteenth impression of the true first edition of "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone", in very nice bright condition, albeit without the original dustwrapper. Being such a popular children's book, copies in nice undamaged condition are far from easy to find now. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. Grandpré, Mary (illustrator). …
