On his return to Thebes after great victories against sea raiders, Pharaoh Tuthmosis II is struck dead at the foot of the statue of Amun-Ra. As news of his death spreads, a witch pollutes the Pharaoh's unfinished tomb, and so begins a series of events which must reveal the great secrets of Egypt.

Paul Doherty was born in Middlesbrough. He studied History at Liverpool and Oxford Universities and obtained a doctorate for his thesis on Edward II and Queen Isabella. He is now headmaster of a school in north-east London and lives with his family in Essex.
