Each of the events in this book is a ritual of work, play, courtship or survival - and each is taking place, at this very moment. Somewhere today: a sea otter is floating on its back for lunch; a pair of western grebes is running over the surface of a river; a chameleon is uncurling its tongue to catch lunch; an archer fish is shooting water at its prey; two bald eagles, talons locked, are plummeting through the sky; two brown hares are boxing; a spotted skunk is doing a handstand; two spectacled salamanders are hamming it up; two dung-beetles are rolling a ball across the sand; a sidewinder rattlesnake is getting sidetracked; a blue bird of paradise is showing off, upside down; and a dormouse is sleeping. Each picture is accompanied by a brief, explanatory text, giving the domocile and some of the customs of the featured creatures.
