The Warhammer 40,000 universe has always been one of Games Workshop’s richest story settings, allowing incredible breadth and yet at the same time providing instantly recognisable characters that can be developed. Proof-reading Dark Imperium has really reminded me how lucky we are to have such great writers eager to contribute their stories, from the harrowing description of a medical procedure in ‘Apothecary’s Honour’, to the epic clashes of ‘Battle of the Archeosaurus’ and the skirmishes of ‘Small Cogs’ which has in it the tensest, most gripping battle scene that I have ever read.
