Michael McCormack (born 1/61) grew up in New Orleans and has resided in approximately a dozen North American cities. He wrote his first novel at twenty-two, and has been entranced ever since with the shamanic power of the raconteur and his vital, if underacknowledged, role as prime celebrant of the healthful elements in society. An inveterate sports fan, he is a near-lifelong aficionado of the Cincinnati Reds, New Orleans Saints and Vancouver Canucks. His own vision went 'haywire' in 1983 when he naively discovered Charles Olson, instantly understanding that one courting lettershood must aspire to the spectacular or stifle. He read Jonathan Williams' The Magpie's Bagpipe a few months later and the fallow field was seeded. His favorite quote on art is by photographer Frank Meadow Sutcliffe: "If we can only get what anyone can get at any time, then all of our efforts are wasted".
