Dr. Shannon Grey has had a successful career in education for over sixteen years. Dr.Grey graduated with honors with a B.S. in Early Childhood Development from New York University. She received her Master of Education degree from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey’s Graduate School of Education, with a specialization in Elementary Language Arts. Dr. Grey earned her Ed.D. from Rutgers in the area of Sociological and Philosophical Foundations of Education, specializing in Curriculum Theory and Development.
Dr. Grey taught elementary school for thirteen years in highly acclaimed public schools. During her time as a teacher she served as a mentor for novice educators, staff developer, and chairperson for several school-based and district-wide committees. Dr. Grey was also the co-creator of a summer institute aimed at instructing students in the areas of language arts and mathematics. As a faculty lecturer, she has taught classes in teacher education at Rutgers University. For several years Dr. Grey supervised student teachers for Princeton University’s Program in Teacher Preparation. Currently Dr. Grey teaches at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.
Dr. Anita Price Davis is The Charles Dana Professor Emerita of Education and was the Director of Elementary Education at Converse College, Spartanburg, South Carolina. Dr. Davis earned her B.S. and M.A. from Appalachian State University and her doctorate from Duke University. She also received a postdoctoral fellowship to Ohio State University for two additional years of study.
Dr. Davis had worked more than 36 years at Converse College, where she served as the faculty advisor for Kappa Delta Epsilon, a national education honor organization. She also worked 5 years as a public school teacher. Dr. Davis has received wide recognition for her work, including a letter of appreciation from the U.S. Department of the Interior, inclusion in Contemporary Authors, and a citation of appreciation from the Michigan Council of the Social Studies. She has authored/coauthored 23 funded grants for Converse College. She has served as a mentor and was a two-time President of the Spartanburg County Council of the International Reading Association. The state of South Carolina twice named her an outstanding educator, and she was twice a nominee for the CASE U.S. Professor of the Year.
Dr. Davis has authored, co-authored, and edited more than 80 books. She has written two college textbooks titled Reading Instruction Essentials and Children’s Literature Essentials. Dr. Davis has published several history books and is also the author of more than 80 papers, book reviews, journal articles, and encyclopedia entries.
