Dr. Shannon Grey has had a successful career in education for over eighteen years. She graduated with honors with a B.S. in Early Childhood Development from New York University. Dr. Grey received her Masters of Education from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey’s Graduate School of Education, with a specialization in Elementary Language Arts. She earned her doctorate of education from Rutgers in the area of Sociological and Philosophical Foundations of Education, specializing in Curriculum Theory and Development.
Dr. Grey taught elementary school for thirteen years in highly acclaimed public schools. During her time as a teacher she served as a mentor for novice educators, a staff developer, and the chairperson of several school-based and district-wide committees. Dr. Grey was also the co-creator of a summer institute aimed at instructing students in the areas of language arts and mathematics. She has contributed to several REA publications. As a faculty lecturer, she has taught classes in teacher education at Rutgers University. Currently Dr. Grey teaches and supervises student teachers for Princeton University’s Program in Teacher Preparation.
Dr. Kathryn F. Porter is a Professor of Mathematics at Saint Mary’s College of California where she has held various positions including the Coordinator of the Mathematics Preparation Program for future secondary mathematics teachers, the Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, the Director of the Liberal and Civic Studies Program, and is currently the Director of Mathematics Readiness.
Dr. Porter earned her Ph.D and M.S. in Mathematics at University of Delaware and her B.S. in Secondary Education and Mathematics at Slippery Rock University. Professor Porter has written many research articles in the mathematical area of Topology and has served on numerous committees related to mathematics, teaching, and governance. Professor Porter is one of the founders of the highly regarded Teachers for Tomorrow program at Saint Mary’s College, and has advised future elementary school teachers as well as future secondary mathematics teachers throughout her twenty years at Saint Mary’s College.
