The area of repairs and dilapidations is of great importance to the student of surveying, land management, housing and law yet the number of books on the subject are few and far between and, certainly, there is no casebook on this subject area.

This casebook brings together 118 of the leading cases on the subject of repairs and dilapidations and yet, these cases do not cover the whole subject area. Indeed the casebook concentrates on the landlord and tenant aspects of disrepair and only touches upon any potential tortious liability for disrepair. Neither are the more specific rights under the housing legislation (for example, standards of unfitness etc) covered. The casebook is offered to the surveying and land management student as a source of material for seminars and tutorials but it is also hoped to appeal to the wider range of practitioners practising in this field.

While the law of repairs and dilapidations continues to grow, most of the basic principles have been established over many years and this casebook concentrates on the principles to be applied to the many problems found in this field.
