The second edition of Lee and Jones' landslide risk assessment volume has been restructured and substantially updated, with a focus on the nature of risk and management as well as technical factors. The first chapter focuses on definitions of risk and hazard, as well as Black Swan/Perfect Storm events. Basics of risk assessment are presented next, including assessment process, technical facts, and qualitative vs quantitative assessments. Chapter 5 introduces probability, uncertainty, reliability and use of expert judgment, with chapter 6 addressing probability estimates for landslides in detail and chapters 7-8 presenting the modifying factors of exposure and vulnerability. Chapters 9-11 focus on implementation, discussing how to estimate the consequences of a landslide, quantify risk appropriately, and construct an effective management strategy. The final chapter discusses issues, including the effects of climate change, that will impact on landslide assessments in the future. Annotation ©2014 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
