Beatrix Potter is one of the world's best-loved children's authors of all time. From her first book, The Tale of Peter Rabbit (1902) she went on to create a series of stories based around animal characters including Mrs Tiggy-winkle, Mr Jeremy Fisher and Tom Kitten. Her humorous, lively tales and beautiful illustrations have become a natural part of childhood.
A source of inspiration was the Lake District where she lived for the last thirty years of her life as a farmer and conservationist.

Included are facsimiles of the three stages in the publication of this classic book: (1) the picture letter Beatrix Potter first wrote to Noel Moore in 1893, (2) her own privately-printed volume of 1901 (first printing) , and (3) the original deluxe edition (in yellow cloth) published by Frederick Warne in 1902. An 8 page pamphlet on the history of publication is also included. These items are secured with a decorative ribbon, overlaid with a monogramed tissue guard, and housed in a gilt-decorated blue cloth box with a brass clasp.
