This title builds on the skills introduced in Ladybird "Learn Reading". Both books combine the proven paths to reading - developing sight vocabulary, phonic awareness and a fascination for stories. The "Parent point" on every spread explains the purpose of each activity, and gives ideas for further practice and extension work. There is a "Skills checklist" at the back of the book. Emphasis is on reading for understanding (one of the National Curriculum major requirements in English) and reinforcement of the important link between reading and writing. Reading skills are practised in the context of a farm.
