The Wainwright Memorial Walk is the challenging 102-mile route that A. Wainwright devised, and walked with three friends over the Whitsuntide holiday of 1931. Based on a sketch map he produced at the time, it has been possible to reconstruct the walk from the maps he later drew for his unique Pictorial Guides, and the route has been highlighted on the maps for this book. This new edition follows exactly the same route but has been divided into eleven shorter stages which can be walked independently if the whole round cannot be done as one. To walk even a few stages of this walk will commemorate the man who gave so much to the Lake District.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

A.Wainwright was the author of over fifty guidebooks and volumes of drawings; he compiled his famous Pictorial Guides between 1952 and 1966. He became a household name when he collaborated with Derry Brabbs on seven bestselling books, and there werethree BBC2 television series. He died in 1991.
