The book is divided into twelve themed sections to help learners in their specific areas of interest. Each themed section of the book contains either three or four spreads showing the failings common amongst beginners - the typical mistakes are shown on the left-hand page with annotations by the author highlighting what the problem areas are. After the problem-and-solution pages the artist shows how the drawing techniques covered can be combined to produce a complete picture which integrates all the lessons learnt. The information throughout is presented clearly with plenty of useful annotations in a handy portable size so readers can take it wherever their sketching leads them.

Trudy Friend is an experienced and accomplished artist and teacher who runs specialist courses in all media. She holds a special passion for drawing which led her to devise the highly popular Problems and Solutions column for the UK's Leisure Painter magazine, which this book is based on. She has also written for The Artist and Artists & Illustrotors magazines and lives near Bideford, Devon.
