Paperback. Zustand: Fair. Cities of the Red Night was published in 1981 as the first of the Red Cities trilogy and became William Burroughs most successful novel following The Naked Lunch. As shocking and innovative as its predecessor the book includes many characters form other Burroughs' novels at the centre of which is an early eighteenth century pirate, Captain Mission who, almost a century before the French and American revolutions preached among other things complete equality, the abolition of slavery, torture, and the death penalty; freedom of religion; and an end to tyranny.
