The first in a new series, this book presents a general view of ancient Egyptian life and culture set in the specific geography of the land and its river, the Nile, within the historical framework of the dynastic sequence. It provides an entertaining survey of ancient Egypt and its rich and well-documented culture. The principal topics incorporate significant older as well as more recent scholarship, supported by substantial bibliographies and spiced with some ideas based on the author's long experience in the study of ancient Egypt. The intention is not to be controversial, yet not to be bland - but to be stimulating and thought-provoking. In addition to the individual chapter bibliographies, there is a substantial general bibliography, an annotated list of important museum collections, a king-list with a selective set of illustrated royal cartouches, and a general index.
Biografía del autor
T.G.H. James retired as Keeper of the Department of Ancient Egypt and the Sudan in the British Museum and is the author of numerous books on Egypt and Egyptology, including Pharaoh's People: Scenes from Life in Imperial Egypt; Howard Carter; Tutankhamun; Egyptian Painting; A Short History of Ancient Egypt from Predynastic to Roman Times; A Dedicated Life; Egyptian Sculpture (with W.V. Davies) and Egypt: The Living Past.
