Inhaltsangabe

Nigel Hamilton's official life, MONTY, worked within the constraints of the time and circumstances under which it was written. Now Hamilton has started from scratch to present what is in every sense THE FULL MONTY. This is a rich and fascinating account - of a withdrawn, stubborn, difficult man who remained both highly characteristic of Imperial Britain and yet utterly revolutionary in his criticism of that world. With immense skill Hamilton shows how it was Montgomery's homosexuality that is the key to understanding his genius - a genius that was to contribute so much to the defeat of Hitler and which was first shown to the world in this first volume's final set-piece: the Battle of El Alamein.
