This book aims to teach the basic skills and their practice and usage in many forms. Joan Freeman's work includes designs for ecclesiastical embroidery, in particular for York Minster, St Albans Abbey and Durham Cathedral. She has designed book jackets and record sleeves and wood engraving illustrations for two Folio Society books, "The Mabinogion" and "The Wandering Scholars".
