For example, when in the 1930s it became known in Britain that the Soviets desperately needed to raise foreign capital, the British government purchased 347 leaves from Russia for the princely sum of GBP100,000. When the Codex leaves arrived at the British Museum on 27 December 1933, long queues formed to view the magnificent treasure. Finally, the book tells how all surviving leaves of the Codex will soon be gathered together again and made accessible to a worldwide audience for the first time through digitization.
