In recent years, holistic, alternative or complementary therapies have been the subject of increasing interest within health care. With their emphasis on self-care and prevention of illness of the whole person rather than on a symptomatic approach, they are no longer seen as fringe or unorthodox, and are being increasingly integrated into 'orthodox' medicine.
