Hardcover. Zustand: As New. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: As New. First Edition. 176 pp, cloth in illustrated d/w, in mint condition, NEW, copy signed by the author. A portrait of a Russian officer, bought from a crooked Lebanese art dealer, causes mysterious events and strange men come calling; a cat, tortured in pre-Revolutionary France, returns to wreak revenge; a German soldier deserts to see his mother in a devastated Germany with surprising consequences; an exotic birdcage seems possessed of strange powers to its new owner. Just four synopses of ten remarkable stories heralding a remarkable debut. Joannah Yacoub writes with verve, considerable insight and a wonderful range of vocabulary. Sophisticated and profoundly moving, here is a new writer of startling virtuosity. Joannah Yacoub was born in Gretna, Scotland but crossed the border at an early age to grow up on a small farm in Cumberland. She has been crossing physical and psychological borders ever since, having lived in France, Germany, Greece and Lebanon. She read Modern Languages at the University of East Anglia and, after teaching in Germany, entered the world of cosmetics, fragrance and fashion marketing, her final position being UK Marketing Director of a famous French company. After a good many years of travelling and fixing homes, she completed her MA in Creative Writing at Brunel University. She is married to a Lebanese businessman (now retired) and, though she travels frequently to Lebanon, her main home is now in London. #33736. Signed by Author(s). Artikel-Nr. 011644
