Around the main map are photographs, illustrations and text comprising an inset map showing Europe under the Axis; photographs and potted biographies of General Eisenhower, Admiral Sir Bertram Home Ramsay and Field Marshal Erwin Rommel; action photographs of the actual landings; maps illustrating how the invasion beach was "softened up" by bombing and sabotage; the progress of the battle following the D-Day landings from 6 June to the end of August; the present-day locations of cemeteries, monuments and museums; countdown to D-Day; and a timetable which encapsulates the main events from Dunkirk to D-Day.
