A well illustrated volume presents brief history of exploration and development of so-called Terra Nullius, 1788-c.1872, provides interesting information on very roots of the Australian identity while indigenous population unstoppable resistance towards colonization had been subtly omitted, substituted with sole outbursts triggered by culturally-insensitive particular explorers. Alison Forbes has won nearly every award the Australian book design and publishing industry has to offer. Some of the awards she has won include the Award of Honour from the Australian Book Publishers Association"for her continued and outstanding contribution to Australian book design and production," the 1968 Transfield Design Award for The Land that Waited with Max Harris, the book of the Year in 1974-75 from the Australian Publishers Association for John Cotton's Birds of the Port Phillip District of NSW, 1843-1848 as well as awards from the Australian Commercial and Industrial Artists Association (ACIAA).
