A first edition - first printing of Volume II of "The Diary of Virginia Woolf", published by The Hogarth Press in 1978. No reading creases to the spine. Spine tight. Page block edges lightly foxed, mainly to the top edge (please see scans). Internally near fine with no previous ownership inscriptions or annotations. Map illustrated endpapers showing Richmond and South-West London c. 1920 at the front, and The Ouse Valley in Sussex c.1920 at the back. ***In a very good illustrated dustwrapper, which retains the original publisher's printed price of £9.50 net. The dustwrapper is complete, with no chips or tears. Some light creasing to the extremities, and a few small marks. No fading to the spine colour. Foxing to the inner flaps, with some browning to the edges. ***242mm x 160mm. 371 pages including an extremely detailed 28pp Index at the back of the book. ***'In this second volume the excitements, challenges and anxieties of Virginia Woolf's own progress as a writer, of the Woolf's expanding circle of friends and interests, are described with an immediacy, honesty and natural eloquence which, in the words of a reviewer of the earlier volume, offers the reader a "rich and inexhaustible companionship"'. (Quote taken from the front flap of the dustwrapper) ***First printing of the true first edition, in very good condition in the original dustwrapper.
