Life is filled with difficulties, challenges, obstacles and unwanted interruptions. Some we can see in front of us while others will come upon us suddenly and unannounced, rarely giving us time to prepare for the impact. Some challenges we cause on ourselves due to poor decisions that we've made. But some of life’s challenges are simply beyond our control, which can seem unfair and unjust. So what do we do in these moments? Do we cower in defeat and blame our problems on the world and those around us? Do we lay down and become our circumstance? Or do we square shoulders with life’s injustices, obstacles and, challenges and say, “you will not become my identity.” Do we give up? Or do we arise with the audacious pursuit to live out our best lives with purpose and intentionality despite the setbacks we've experienced? This book depicts the story of one girl’s challenges through life from abuse, to kidnappings, to being handed a harsh prison sentence all before the age of 21. And yet, the constant message that we see unfolding through the pages of this book is, "sometimes purpose is found in your darkest hour." “But God” is a captivating reminder that even in the dark we can discover our purpose! Because destiny is often disguised in life's most unwanted and painful interruptions.

Nadine grew up in Brooklyn, New York the youngest of 3 children to a single mother, during the drug infested years of the 80’s. She became a gang member at the age of 14. At 18 she became pregnant with her first child, and at age 21 she was sentenced to almost six years in federal prison. While prison was harsh and filled with many difficulties, it was there in a prison cell, where God would embark upon her life and help her to realize that the greatest obstacle she would need to overcome was not the pain of her past or her physical prison confinement. But her greatest obstacle was herself. Within the confines of gray concrete cells, Nadine found her purpose and a new perspective on life. During her years in prison, she became a GED instructor, started a prison newsletter for mothers behind bars, became a Bible teacher for several hundred inmates and went to College to study Business Administration. Today she serves as the Chief Operations Officer for Christian Life Center, Fort Lauderdale. She lives in Florida with her husband of 14 years and their three kids. She enjoys preaching, teaching, mentoring, family vacations and curling up on a couch with a good book. Her passion in life is to see people not become their circumstance and to see them overcome the obstacles they may face on their road to destiny, even if that obstacle is self.
