This book is written well and teaches a lesson that people need to be true to themselves and not let the perceptions of other people affect them. Although LGBT is more accepted in today's society there are a lot of LGBT people who are afraid to reveal to their true self for fear of reprisal and non-acceptance especially among their friends. This book reinforces making peace with yourself and learning to love yourself. A book of love and acceptance in all situations.Jamie’s book speaks to the heart of our human need to be loved and accepted. I was able to identify my own personal struggles with needing to feel loved and accepted by others and has encouraged me to seek the counseling I’ve put off for so long. My story is not about homosexuality, but rather about how I was seeking acceptance from others in unhealthy ways. You may identify yourself as Raul, or as Sarah, or any other character in the book. As you read the book, you will transpose your life and gain a deeper understanding of yourself and those around you.Phenomenal Story about how to stop hiding who you are. When I read a book I very much reflect on the "golden nuggets" the author is trying to give me. Don't let the name or dark cover fool you into thinking this is a book of darkness. IT is instead a book of light for those who overcome their suffering. This book is a good read for anyone who is LGBT, is a supporting family member for someone who is LGBT and or identify's as LGBT themselves. It gives a voice for so many struggling with these emotions and feelings in our families and communities. Suggest it as a gift for those in your life who are LGBT that you want to support. This is a definite read!We all have a journey in life and we can choose how we get to our final destination! The author shares an important story about the struggles that individuals have and what leads them to thoughts of suicide. She writes from experience of helping others to assess their life situations and exploring other alternatives than suicide. She accepts people for who they are and their choices as she develops her story. A great ending.suicidality versus resiliency and authenticyThe character development revealed interesting complex people from Sara to Raul, and even Raul’s mom and wife. Can’t wait to see what comes next for Sara. I feel like there’s so much more. One person found this helpfulInspiring and TruthfulI think everyone should read this book.
