In 2009, the Education Committee of the American Bar Association's Civil Rights and Social Justice Section set out to determine if people across the United States agreed that a quality education is a fundamental right, and if so, what they felt comprised the essential elements of that right. the Committee called for focus groups to discuss those points around the nation. By June of 2017, the Committee, with the help of ABA President Linda Klein's Commission on the Lawyer's Role in Assuring Every Child's Right to a High-Quality Education, had received reports from twelve different focus groups from across the United States. This book summarizes the reports from those groups and, from the findings, develops a ten pillar Education Bill of Rights which we hope will create a standard for our American education system.
