Amanda Sohan was born in the heart of New York City to a set of parents from British Guyana. While growing up with one foot steeped in the strict cultural boundaries her parents held dear and the other rooted in modern teenage American angst, reading and writing became the main medium for her journey toward freedom. In her dark poetry she grew to love the meaningful depths hidden in a collaboration of words. There was nothing more odd than the music she and her only sister Rowena grew up with; two American, West Indian girls bumping to the sound of Eazy E as Video Music Box flashed across the tube. Her teenage years, a graphic rebellion of words that could sneak under the radar of her parents watchful eye. How ironic that her first work would be a gentle, humorous children's book.
